Radio Navigation Simulator IFR App Reviews

Nice but much too complicated

As title says. To explain how a VOR works to students, there is no need for tuning, no need for more than two VORs no need too switch between standby and active or whatsoever. To make sure the student will get the picture, you need to keep it simple!!

Recently improving

Good for all kinds of navigation and time management training - except approaches. Would love to see ils and v/rnav covered one day...

Useful Tool

Does pretty well what it says it does. A useful tool for teaching/learning VOR/ADF navigation. Proposed updates make it sound that future versions will be even more capable. Good, prompt support.

Good trainer

Not bad, but it would be nice to let user adjust nav aids locations

Lack of ILS... :(

An almost professional APP for Instrument Rating training... ...to be perfect you should add ILS too! Also, a printable PDF manual, could be very useful.

Dont buy this

Horrible waste of 5 dollars. Feed a bum instead of buying this.

The USA data area is very useful...

I have reviewed this app previously when I first purchased it and it was tremendously helpful for my flight training, in those early days of figuring out what instruments did what and why. I recently updated and discovered to my delight that it now provides data for the whole USA to purchase within the app, which I bought immediately. I am now able fly routes I am actually familiar, with as well as allowing me to practice some that Im not. I can see this being a huge benefit for anyone training or just wanting to learn in their own backyard. This app just gets better with each version, and Im looking forward to the next updates. Again, highly recommended. Thanks.

RNS review

An excellent tool for teaching the relationship between what the pilot sees in the cockpit and where the airplane is in relation to the radio stations. Like and tool, its only as good,as the instructor using it.

Review

Good resource to teach students navigation skills.

My title

Good representation of VOR, HSI, ADF and RMI instrumentation. But, it needs to provide means to represent enroute and approach air space that is representative for the student.

Sound

I will like to hear a plane sound to be more realistic..... And ILS or arrival chart will be amazing...

Good app, cheaper than practicing up there.

I am an instrument rating student and downloaded this app to practice entering holding patterns at VORs and NDBs, works great, it could be easier to manipulate the controls, but works as advertised. It sure beats paying $50 an hour for a simulator or more than that to actually fly, but still does the trick of making your brain think. As a tip, you can zoom out all the way if you want to simulate partial panel (not seeing the nice glass moving map). It would be great that they added a no moving map option to practice this.

Usefull.....nice.....and must have application.....great application

Never get lost in space....

Its a decade ago sine I did my IFR in Austria and had a very pleasant teacher using such tool at the times. Now having it available on iPad/iPhone is even more a joy. Especially to emphasize a aircrafts position in relation to Navigation Aids. Very good tool to teach students as well to give them a tool to train there ability to fly an airplane with the support of instrument, rather having them guessing where they might be or where to go next. I suggest only one thing as improvement, that would be to increase the timer speed up to 4 factors rather having only one. To ease the way through interpreting the instruments I suggest the iBook written by Wilhelm Thaller "Never get lost". Both, the book as well that kind of application made me to fly IFR with confidence from the very first day.

Fantastic app

I am currently a helicopter CFI and CFII, I found this game one evening while waiting for my charter to finish eating dinner. After playing it for the 2 hour wait, I recommended it to all my students. Games are the fastest way to learn

Please add ILS Approaches

Really great application to practice the radio navigation instruments, BUT it would be great if you guys add ILS approaches and I would gladly turn my rating to 5 stars!!! Even some other 4$ applications have ILS approaches! It would be great to see the LOC back course concepts and so on.. I hope you guys read the reviews.. Thanks!

Dont bother

Waste of cash

Excellent training aid

I m a instrument training student and using this app has really helped me visualize what is going on with my position in relationship to nav. Aids

Training as it should be done...

This app is really helping me find my way around the basics of VOR, NDB, DME instrument flight and it also seems to have a lot more detail and depth, so that as I progress I feel I’ll have all I need to help through every training stage. The provided exercise area allows simple one or two navaid scenarios to be setup and the basics learnt, but I’m also looking forward to using it to plan and fly a much longer (and realistic) flight scenario. Being able to actually tune the "in use" beacons, whilst getting the upcoming ones tuned and ready, is amazingly realistic. It would be great if the app had the ability to create my own environment and ILS would be great too. I have emailed the developer and been advised these features are in progress. Highly recommended. Thanks!

I am new at air navigation and wanted to learn more because I use Flight Sims on my IPAD. This helped me 100% in learning air nav. Being new, I had to look up other resources to help explain some terms. After better educating myself I found this to be an Excellent sim to learn and practice air navigation using VOR/ADF/DME/HSI. VERY GOOD JOB TO THE DEVELOPERS! Though be ware, you may have to look up other sources depending on your experience level. I highly recommend for those interested in air navigation.
